Driving Directions:
Getting to the Outer Banks of North Carolina is a trip. It takes a while but the farther you go the more beautiful it gets.

From the West – Travel East on I64 from I 95. Head towards Manteo. Pass thru Manteo and over the Causeway. Take an immediate Right onto Rt. 12 and into the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
From the South –You can come by boat! Take the Cedar Island Ferry to Ocracoke and then another ferry to Hatteras Island. The National Seashore begins on Ocracoke Island, the home of Blackbeard the pirate! Great fun and very relaxing on a nice day!
From the North - Basically you head southeast from Norfolk until you run out of mainland. You cross over a long bridge that takes you to out to the barrier Islands. Turn South and pass thru Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, and Nags Head. Yes, this is the place where we first flew an airplane. Sand dunes and wind. Happy Landings. As you get past Nags Head and then South Nags Head, Turn left onto Rt. 12 and enter The Cape Hatteras National Seashore. (The trip is easy - there is pretty much only 1 road - just keep the ocean

The directions continue: The drive down Rt 12 is beautiful. The ocean is on your left and the sound is on your right. Water everywhere! Soon, you will arrive at Oregon Inlet, big time charter boat fishing here. The bridge spans an outlet to the Atlantic Ocean. The view from the Bridge is astounding and in the late afternoon - speechless!
Just beyond the bridge lies Pea Island. The island is a wildlife sanctuary and is a bird watcher's dream come true! Stop for a while and immerse yourself in nature.
Keep heading south thru Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, (they all run together)
Continue on, its not much further! The town of Avon is only 10 miles down the road and it is the beginning of what we call the local area.
Avon, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras Village – welcome to the neighborhood. As you leave Avon – who can see the lighthouse first!!
In Buxton, round the big bend and turn to the west as you stare at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse! Pass the school on the right and then the funny looking water tower on the left. Welcome to Frisco!
Pass the Cape Hatteras Baptist Church on the Right; then a bit farther the entrance to Ramp 49 and the Billy Mitchell airport.
One mile later the Quarterdeck Restaurant looms on the Right – take the left onto Tides Edge Lane and AS YOU LIKE IT is the big yellow house on the right. WELCOME HOME!
